Washington, DC – Paint the town white! To kick off Diner en Blanc season in Washington, a handful of local Georgetown shops are pulling their best white inventory and showcasing their most elegant picnic cuisine. On Monday, August 15 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Diner en Blanc members are invited to visit Rent the Runway, Goorin Brothers, Ledbury, and Dean and Deluca for an evening of shopping, browsing seasonal whites and posh picnic basket sampling and essentials.

Join Rent the Runway, Goorin Brothers and Ledbury for fashion and fitting parties – members can stop at one or visit all three, conveniently located nearby each other in Cady’s Alley. Each store will have all of its Diner en Blanc appropriate pieces available for shoppers to try on, purchase or order online that evening. Complimentary cupcakes, champagne, wine and whiskey will be available at all three stores.

Tease your taste buds at Dean & Deluca and sample items from their Diner en Blanc baskets. On Monday evening, Dean & Deluca will label specific products suggested for Diner en Blanc attendees who want to fill their own baskets. Look out for the Diner en Blanc logo tagged on Dean & Deluca’s favorite cheeses, charcuterie, freshly prepared salads and loaves of bread. For members who wish to pre-order a Dean & Deluca catered picnic basket, Dean & Deluca associates will be available to assist customers that evening to purchase their picnic baskets to be picked up on the day of the event, Saturday, August 27.

About Diner en Blanc
Launched in Paris in 1988 by François Pasquier and a handful of friends, Le Dîner en Blanc has become a worldwide epicurean phenomenon. Dîner en Blanc - Paris now attracts over 10,000 people each year. What was a “friends and word-of-mouth only” event has grown into an international sensation celebrated on five continents. While the technology behind the event may have changed over the years, the principles fuelling this fantastic event have not: guests continue to gather at a secret location for the sole purpose of sharing a gourmet meal with good friends in one of their city’s most beautiful public spaces.  Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Montreal, Canada, Dîner en Blanc International is responsible for developing this secret posh picnic in over 70 cities in more than 25 countries around the world. Each event is headed by passionate local organizers who fell in love with the concept and wanted to bring it to their city, giving this rendezvous a local flair.

About Ledbury
Ledbury is the Richmond-based luxury shirtmaker and menswear brand that is best known for dress and casual shirts that prioritize great fit and superb quality.
In 2008, Paul Trible and Paul Watson had just graduated from Oxford University when the markets crashed. Obsessed with quality and innovation in menswear, the pair turned their attention from Wall Street to Jermyn Street and spent time working under one of London’s premier tailors to learn the art of shirtmaking.
Ledbury is headquartered in a renovated tobacco warehouse in historic downtown Richmond, VA, where the Southern setting inspires the line. Each Ledbury shirt is made from fabric sourced from prestigious European mills and finished with a tailored cut, updated collar spreads and mother-of-pearl buttons. The brand’s values of fit and quality carry through to new collections including blazers, sweaters, pants, polos, ties and accessories. www.ledbury.com

Renowned French designer Jean-François Garcia will exclusively debut his latest collection during Compassion Through Fashion – a runway show fundraiser to benefit Arco Iris America. Also on the runway will be the elegant, stunning and sophisticated handbags by Bolivian designer Kathyuska Carrasco. Supported by the Ambassador of France to Bolivia, Michael Pinard, the event will be Sept. 12 at La Maison Française, a stylish venue within the French Embassy in Washington.

“We are beyond delighted to have such talented and extraordinary partners for our annual fundraiser,” said Morayma Bak, president of Arco Iris America. “It is going to be an unforgettable evening of specialty wines, runway fashion, a silent auction and more to support children who need love and the hope for a promising future.”

Garcia’s clothing line, Raza de Bronce, blends its strong Bolivian identity with European design. Each piece is handcrafted in Bolivia with high-end materials that are exclusively Bolivian, Andean or Latin American. The result is exceptional quality from socially and economically sustainable production.
Picture
“When I first arrived in Bolivia in 2008, I felt astonished by the beauty of the country, but at the same time troubled by poverty, especially regarding children,” Garcia recalled. “Back then, I attended a charity event for Arco Iris, which brought me to tears – the work they do is incredible. I am overjoyed to now be involved in this fundraiser, and I hope we can raise many needed funds for the orphans and other impoverished youth.”

During the event, Arco Iris will honor Father José Maria Neuenhofer, who founded Fundación Arco Iris in 1994. He was born in Germany, growing up during World War II and its aftermath, and as a priest was pronounced advisor to the homeless children in La Paz. In 2009, he was named Bolivia's Person of the Year.
The Washington, D.C. region is home to significantly more Bolivian-Americans than any other metropolitan area in the nation.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. to a cocktail party with a complimentary glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres (followed by a cash bar). Program activities begin at 7:30pm The master of ceremonies will be Chris Guerra, Founding Conductor and Artistic Director of the Strathmore Children’s Chorus. Tickets are limited and are available at CompassionThroughFashion.Eventbrite.com.

About Arco Iris America

It is the North American counterpart to Fundación Arco Iris (Rainbow Foundation) in La Paz, Bolivia – the poorest nation in South America. Birds of a Feather Gala

6/25/2015

Picture
Last month, I attended the Peacock Room REMIX: Darren Waterston's Filthy Lucre at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. Shortly after, I also attended the exhibit's Birds of a Feather Gala. Gillian Anderson was in attendance to support her dear friend, Darren Waterson.

The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery bring together artists and art lovers, philanthropists and diplomats, cultural and business leaders, and young professionals for a sumptuous evening to celebrate the opening of the exhibition Peacock Room REMIX: Darren Waterston's Filthy Lucre and to benefit the museums' American Art Endowment.

At Flock Together, the gala after-party, guests start their extraordinary evening at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery with a champagne reception hosted by the Silk Road Society. There, they enjoy an exclusive preview of Peacock Room REMIX: Darren Waterston’s Filthy Lucre, on public view for the first time in Washington. The dazzling event continues when guests “flock together” at the after-party held in the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. Into the night guests enjoy drinks, a dessert buffet, and dancing with a special performance by BETTY, the rock band that composed and recorded the mesmerizing soundscape for Filthy Lucre.

Picture
Filthy Lucre, an immersive installation by painter Darren Waterston, reimagines James McNeill Whistler’s famed Peacock Room—an icon of American art—as a decadent ruin collapsing under the weight of its own creative excess. Forging a link between inventive and destructive forces, Filthy Lucre forms the centerpiece of an unprecedented exhibition that highlights the complicated tensions between art and money, ego and patronage, and acts of creative expression in the nineteenth century and today.

Picture
During the eighteen-month run of Peacock Room REMIX, a series of related installations are presented in conjunction with Filthy Lucre. First on view are Whistler’s portraits of the Leyland family and Waterston’s preparatory studies for his installation (May 16 to early January 2016).  A second phase, The Lost Symphony: Whistler and the Perfection of Art (January to May 2016), highlights the history of a painting Leyland commissioned for the Peacock Room but Whistler never completed. Chinamania (June to January 2017) explores the enduring craze for Chinese blue-and-white porcelain in the West.

Peacock Room REMIX is organized by the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. Darren Waterston’s installation Filthy Lucre, 2013–14, was created by the artist in collaboration with MASS MoCA, North Adams, Massachusetts.

5/5/2015

Picture
On April 24th, I attended The Creative Coalition’s Celebration of Arts in America Red Carpet & Dinner on the eve of the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The red carpet was held outside the STK restaurant.

On the red carpet I spotted the following: Creative Coalition CEO Robin Bronk ,Tim Daly, Haley Joel Osment, Rob Thomas, Gabourey Sidibe, Jennifer Coolidge, Andrew Dost, Naya Rivera, Bailee Madison, Alanna Masterson, Connie Nielsen, Emily Osment, Michelle Trachtenberg, Constance Zimmer, Troian Bellisario, Darby Stanchfield, Jason Isaacs, U.S. Representative Ander Crenshaw, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow , Congresswoman Debbie Dingell.

After the red carpet, select press was granted to come inside the venue (STK DC) for  the cocktail portion. While inside, I had the pleasure of meeting Bailee Madison who was wearing a pretty Aldofo Sanchez dress. I chatted with Bailee before checking out the setting. The sweetest young lady ever. So polite!

Picture

I made the rounds and found myself near Kelly Rutherford and Michelle Trachtenberg. (In a fabulous Smythe cheetah print coat) I was in the midst of a mini Gossip Girl reunion! Kelly who wore a colorful cocktail dress by Lee Anderson Couture -  took the time to briefly talk fashion & to my delight - recognized me from the prior night at the
#RockTheVote #WHCD Kick-Off Party.

Picture

After chatting with my fellow media buddies from prior events - I made my way to the dining section where Naya Rivera and Gabourey Sidibe were sitting. The popular STK DC was nicely set-up for the impending dinner.  Following behind my photographer pals and after checking out the table settings & menu, I briefly chatted with the lovely Naya Rivera.  I immediately congratulated her on the baby news and asked if they're expecting a boy or a girl - Naya quickly responded that they don't even know! They want to be surprised until the baby is due
. Naya was  laid-back, sweet and cool as she chatted with my media crew!

Picture
Before calling it a night, I  noted the dinner menu.

For starters - guests had Market Lettuce. As for the
Entree - 6oz Filet was served along with Skuna Bay Salmon , Tiger Prawn and Pan-Roasted Chicken Breast. Dessert - guests noshed on the Almond Fudge Brownie .

The Creative Coalition was formed for the charitable and educational purposes of bringing together artists and entertainers to learn about pressing issues so they can better inform and influence the community and nation.

Picture
On April 11th, I attended the 'Magic of Montmartre Gala' held at the Embassy of France. The event was an annual benefit for The Washington Home & Community Hospices' health care and end-of-life services for area residents.

According to Tim and Sharon - (TWHCH) Established as the Washington Home for Incurables in 1888 and helped pioneer the hospice movement in this country. The founders believed that aging and terminally ill-women and men - especially those who had no one else to care for them - deserved compassionate care at the end of their lives. Their work is still guided by this philosophy today.

Kicking off the cocktail reception, Tim Cox (Chief Executive Officer) and Sharon Collins Casey (Chair of Board) greeted each guest by door, it was then I was greeted by Tim, Sharon and a Mime Artist. Shortly followed by a lady dressed up in a Marie Antoinette costume serving Kir Royal. After the introductions, I proceeded to make my way through the next room to check out several accessories, jewelry and pastries.

The following stores  below participated in the 'Elegant French Market' at the event. A portion of the market net proceeds will support

On February 28th, I attended the annual DC Heart Ball. After attending the 2014 ball, I was looking forward to this year's Paris-themed ball. Like the previous year, the event was held at the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

For 17 years, more than 500 of the region's most prominent medical, corporate, and community leaders gather at an elegant, black-tie event to celebrate the work of the American Heart Association and culminate American Heart Month.
This year's Heart Ball features remarks by Chelsea Clinton.

The theme for this year is joie de vivre - the joy of life. It goes hand in hand with the American Heart Association's new anthem, Life is Why.
Picture
After press check-in, I made my way into the ballroom before the cocktail reception started. It was then I met the Singh family whose story will be told by Emilie Singh, the mom of Gracie and Chloe in a few hours on the main stage. Each year a family's remarkable  story of survival helped by the AHA is featured during the annual event. This year it's the Singh family. I was fortunate to meet the delighted family who could not have been more sweet and gracious. If there was ever a family that was truly golden, it's them.

After the cocktail reception meet and greets, the guests made their way into another section where the bulk of the evening took place.
